The 1 peseta of this type was struck in the years after the Spanish Civil War under the government of General Franco, forming part of the everyday coinage of the Spanish Peseta. Made in an aluminium-bronze alloy, it had a warm golden colour, a light but firm feel and a plain edge, and was a common small-value coin in mid-twentieth-century Spain.

On the obverse, the coin carries the bare-headed bust of Francisco Franco facing right, encircled by the legend “FRANCISCO FRANCO CAUDILLO DE ESPAÑA POR LA G. DE DIOS” with the date “1947” at the foot, all within a beaded border.

On the reverse appears the crowned Spanish coat of arms with the eagle of Saint John behind the shield, flanked by the Pillars of Hercules bearing the motto “PLUS ULTRA”, and a ribbon inscribed “UNA GRANDE LIBRE” above. The words “UNA” and “PESETA” curve to either side, stating the denomination.
