The 100 pesetas coin of the 1960s was the highest circulating denomination of its day and, unusually for the period, was struck in .800 fine silver, giving it a bright finish and a reassuring weight in the hand. Dated 1966 on the obverse, its precise year of issue is marked by a small star punched into the field. The piece has a lettered, decorative edge and was widely saved as much as spent.

On the obverse, the coin bears the bare head of Francisco Franco facing right in bold relief, encircled by the legend “FRANCISCO FRANCO CAUDILLO DE ESPAÑA POR LA G. DE DIOS” with the date “1966” at the foot between two stars.

On the reverse, the crowned Spanish coat of arms is arranged within an ornate quatrefoil, its four lobes displaying the castle of Castile, the lion of León, the bars of Aragon and the chains of Navarre. A royal crown sits above the shield and the value “100 PTAS” is inscribed across the upper field, framed by decorative ornaments.
