The 2 pesetas was a small denomination of Spain’s peseta coinage, the currency used until the euro was adopted in 2002. This early-1980s type is struck in aluminium, giving it a very light weight, a thin flan and a bright silvery colour, with a plain edge. It was a short-lived denomination and is less commonly encountered than the 1 and 5 peseta coins.

On the obverse appears a portrait of King Juan Carlos I facing left, framed by the legend “JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA” with the year 1984 at the foot.

On the reverse, the outline map of Spain fills the field, with the value “2 PTAS” across the centre and the crowned M mintmark of the Madrid mint at the lower left.
