Spanish Pesetas Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Spanish Pesetas for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Spanish Pesetas Exchange

The Spanish Peseta (ESP) was the official currency of Spain until 2002, when it was replaced by the Euro following Spain’s adoption of the single European currency. We accept all denominations of Peseta banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Spanish Peseta Banknotes

The Peseta is no longer in circulation — Spain has used the Euro since 2002 — so there are no current-series banknotes to exchange. However, if you have Peseta banknotes left over from a holiday or tucked away at home, we can still exchange them. We accept a wide range of issues, including higher-value notes such as the 10,000 Peseta note issued in 1995 and the 5,000 Peseta note issued in 1993, as well as all smaller denominations.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept Peseta banknotes from across many decades, including older issues such as the 500 Peseta note issued in 1940 and the 100 Peseta note issued in 1946. We apply the 50% intact rule — as long as a note is at least half present, we will consider it. Rates on older or damaged notes may be slightly lower to reflect their condition, but we will always give you a fair offer. If you also have other withdrawn pre-Euro currencies such as French Francs or Portuguese Escudos, we can exchange those too.

Spanish Peseta Coins

We also accept Spanish Peseta coins, including a range of denominations such as the 25 Peseta coin and the 100 Peseta coin, along with all other Peseta coin denominations. Coins are accepted at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but unlike most banks and bureaux de change, we won’t turn them away.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Spanish Peseta Exchange FAQ

Can I still exchange Spanish Pesetas now that Spain uses the Euro?

Yes, absolutely. Although Spain switched to the Euro in 2002 and Pesetas are no longer legal tender, we specialise in exchanging withdrawn currencies just like this. Send us your Peseta banknotes or coins and we will convert them into British pounds for you.

Do you accept very old Peseta banknotes from the mid-20th century?

Yes. We accept Peseta banknotes issued across many decades, including notes from as far back as the 1930s and 1940s. Older notes are assessed individually and may attract a slightly lower rate, but as long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer.

How do I send my Pesetas and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Peseta banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself — many customers sending leftover holiday currency find this the most convenient option. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If you are not happy with our offer, we will return your currency free of charge.

Will the Banco de España exchange my old Peseta banknotes?

The Banco de España did offer an exchange window for Pesetas after the Euro was introduced, but that official redemption period has now closed. We are one of the few services that will still give you value for your old Peseta notes and coins, regardless of the issue year.

Do you accept Peseta coins as well as banknotes?

Yes, we do. We accept a range of Peseta coin denominations, including smaller coins that many exchanges refuse outright. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to handling costs, but there is no need to separate your notes and coins before sending them to us.
