The 2 Rupees is a circulating coin of Sri Lanka struck between 2005 and 2011. It is made of nickel-plated steel, which gives it a bright silvery surface over a hard-wearing steel core. The coin is round, weighs 7 g and measures 28.5 mm in diameter, making it one of the larger coins in the everyday series. Its size and pale finish helped set it apart in general circulation.
The obverse features the Punkalasa, a vase of abundance, surrounded by a ribbon of decorated circles and flanked by rice grains.
The reverse displays the denomination “2 RUPEES” at its centre. The inscriptions appear in three scripts — Latin, Sinhala and Tamil.
