The two rupees coin is a modern circulation piece of Sri Lanka, struck in a bright copper-nickel alloy for everyday use. Dated 2004, it is a compact, sharply detailed coin with a reeded edge, designed to hold up well to constant handling.

On the obverse, the coin shows the national emblem of Sri Lanka: a golden lion passant holding a sword within a beaded roundel, encircled by a ring of lotus petals. A Buddhist dharmachakra wheel sits above, sheaves of rice curve to either side, and beneath rests the punkalasa vase of plenty flanked by a sun and a moon.

On the reverse, a large numeral “2” dominates the field, with the value spelled out as “TWO RUPEES” in English together with its Sinhala and Tamil equivalents. The country name “SRI LANKA” curves around the right side in English while the Sinhala form arches across the top, and the date “2004” is set at the foot.
