50 Cents — Armorial Ensign of Sri Lanka (Issued 2005-2009)
The 50 Cents is a withdrawn circulating coin of Sri Lanka struck between 2005 and 2009. It is made of copper-plated steel, giving it a reddish-brown surface over a steel core. The coin is round, weighs just 2.49 g and measures 17.92 mm in diameter, making it the smallest and lightest coin in the series. As a fractional denomination it was used for minor everyday transactions before being taken out of circulation.
The obverse displays the Armorial Ensign of Sri Lanka as its central design.
The reverse shows the value and date. The inscriptions appear in three scripts — Latin, Sinhala and Tamil — and include the legends “50”, “FIFTY CENTS” and the date “2005”.
