Swiss 500 Franc Banknote 1st Series Issued 1907
£31.000000
1 CHF = £0.062000
Swiss franc banknotes were issued in different denominations by the Swiss National Bank including this 500 Swiss franc banknote (1st Series). This 500 CHF banknote forms part of the withdrawn series of Swiss franc banknotes. This 500 CHF banknote was issued in 1907 and was later withdrawn from circulation in Switzerland.
This 500 CHF paper banknote is predominantly blue-green and pale olive in colour. On the obverse side, at the left, is a full-length allegorical female figure representing Helvetia, standing and holding a shield bearing the Swiss cross. On the right is a seated cherub figure lifting a shield displaying the value “500”. The central panel contains the issuing text SCHWEIZERISCHE NATIONALBANK together with the denomination written in three languages — Fünfhundert Franken, Cinq Cents Francs and Cinque Cento Franchi. A red Swiss cross seal appears in the upper right corner, and the lower section carries official signatures and the issue date “Bern & Zürich, 1. Februar 1907”. The design is framed by elaborate engraved borders, floral ornamentation and fine line engraving typical of early Swiss National Bank issues.
On the reverse of the note is an ornate symmetrical composition dominated by a large central medallion displaying the denomination in three languages — Cinq Cents Francs, Fünfhundert Franken and Cinque Cento Franchi. On either side are inward-facing classical female profile portraits enclosed within circular medallions. The value “500” appears repeatedly around the medallions and in all four corners, set against a dense guilloché background of geometric security patterns.
