The 1 satang was the smallest denomination of Thailand’s baht system, one hundred satang making a single baht. This wartime issue, dated B.E. 2487 (1944), was struck as a small holed coin with a central round hole that made it easy to identify and to string together. Made in a base metal for the lowest everyday transactions, it carries a plain edge and dense ornamental detail across both faces.

On the obverse, radiating flame-like rays and scrolling foliate ornament surround the central hole, with Thai script and the Buddhist-era date set within the design.

On the reverse, the numeral value appears beside the central hole amid an elaborate arrangement of Thai flame ornament and lettering, with the denomination in Thai characters running around the field.
