50 Baht Baht / Tical (Issued 2025)
In Thailand’s bustling markets, street food stalls, and local transport networks, a fifty-baht note has long represented a practical, everyday denomination — enough to cover a bowl of noodle soup, a short tuk-tuk ride, or a modest street-side purchase. Used by traders, students, and working families alike, it sits at the heart of routine commercial life across both urban centres and rural provinces. The 2025 issue continues this tradition, presenting a freshly printed note that reflects the current reign whilst maintaining the visual language Thais recognise on this denomination. Its polymer-influenced printing and vivid blue palette make it immediately identifiable in any wallet or till.
On the front, the dominant feature is a formal portrait of King Vajiralongkorn — Rama X, the reigning monarch of Thailand — positioned to the right of centre in a composed, forward-facing pose. He is depicted wearing a dark military dress uniform adorned with gold epaulettes, medals, and ceremonial insignia, rendered in fine intaglio-style engraving that gives the portrait notable depth and definition. The overall colour scheme is a rich, layered blue, ranging from pale sky tones in the background to deeper cobalt in the portrait surround and primary design elements. A large guilloché rosette appears in the upper centre of the note, featuring an ornate royal emblem in deep blue and gold at its core, surrounded by fine concentric geometric latticework. To the left of centre, a transparent window security element incorporates the numeral 50 in blue against a clear field, with a small diamond-shaped holographic or colour-shifting device embedded within it, showing the denomination numeral from different angles. The issuing authority text, rendered in Thai script across two lines, identifies this as a note of the Bank of Thailand, with a further line of Thai script reading the denomination in words. A bold large numeral 50 appears in the lower right corner in deep blue, alongside a smaller 50 in an orange-gold guilloché oval to the upper right. Two facsimile signatures appear below the central text block, printed in dark blue ink, representing the authorised signatories of the Bank of Thailand. The serial number, printed vertically along the right-hand margin in dark blue ink, reads 3A 1809933. Along the upper edge, a row of micro-text and Thai numerals forms a security border, and fine diamond-pattern guilloché fills the background across the entire face of the note. A small Garuda emblem — the royal coat of arms of Thailand — appears in the upper right corner in blue and white detail.
The reverse presents a double royal portrait of two historical Thai monarchs rendered in detailed intaglio engraving against a warm golden-yellow and blue background. The two figures are depicted side by side, both wearing traditional Thai royal ceremonial dress with sashes, decorative borders, and formal collars. Based on the denomination and the 2025 series of Thai banknotes, these are King Rama III and King Rama IV — pivotal monarchs who shaped Thailand’s modernisation and international relations during the nineteenth century. King Rama III is positioned on the left and King Rama IV to the right, both shown from approximately the waist upward. Behind the left figure, a detailed illustration of a traditional Thai sailing junk vessel is visible on a lightly engraved seascape, referencing the maritime trade era. To the right of the portraits, a domed architectural structure — identifiable as a mosque or temple with a prominent central dome and flanking minarets — appears in fine line engraving, set against a pale background. A floral garland motif in blue and white spans the lower portion of the portrait composition, and a large Thai numeral 50 appears in the lower left in dark blue intaglio. The denomination numeral 50 also appears in the upper left in dark blue print alongside the Garuda emblem. To the far right, a blue geometric security element with a transparent window mirrors the front-face security device, displaying the numeral 50 in reverse-readable form. The background across the reverse is composed of fine crosshatched guilloché in pale blue and gold tones, with a repeating diamond and floral lattice pattern framing the central imagery. A line of Thai script text runs along the lower margin, presenting the standard legal tender and anti-counterfeiting notice of the Bank of Thailand.
