1 Millime Tunisia (Issued 1960)

The 1 millime is the smallest denomination of the Tunisian currency system, where 1,000 millimes make up one dinar, a structure introduced when the dinar was adopted in 1960. Struck in lightweight aluminium with a bright silvery tone, this small, thin coin was made for the very lowest everyday transactions. As one of the tiniest units of the currency it has long since fallen out of practical use, surviving mainly in old change and collections.

On the obverse, the coin shows a spreading oak tree with a full, leafy crown standing on open ground, framed by an Arabic inscription for the Central Bank of Tunisia around the upper rim and the date “1960” beneath the tree.

On the reverse, a large numeral “1” fills the centre, enclosed by two olive branches curving up from the base to form a wreath. An Arabic inscription reading “one millime” runs along the lower edge within the beaded border.
