25 Kurus Turkey (Issued 1955)
The 25 kuruş was a small coin of the Republic of Turkey, a quarter of a lira, struck in brass with a warm golden tone and a reeded edge. This example is dated 1955. It circulated widely for everyday transactions during the mid-twentieth century.
On the obverse, a crescent and star, the emblems of the Turkish state, occupy the centre of the field, with the legend “TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ”, the Republic of Turkey, curving around the upper rim and the date “1955” at the foot.
On the reverse, the value “25 KURUŞ” is set at the centre within an open wreath of wheat ears tied with a ribbon at the base.
