About Ukrainian Hryvnia Exchange

The Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH) is the official currency of Ukraine, introduced in 1996 following the country’s independence from the Soviet Union. We accept all denominations of Hryvnia banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Ukrainian Hryvnia Banknotes

Current Ukrainian Hryvnia banknotes are issued by the National Bank of Ukraine and feature prominent historical and cultural figures from Ukrainian history. The series includes a range of denominations, all incorporating modern security features such as watermarks, security threads, and holographic elements. We accept all current Hryvnia banknotes, regardless of denomination, so whether you’ve returned from Kyiv with a handful of smaller notes or higher-value banknotes, we can exchange them all.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept older withdrawn series of Ukrainian Hryvnia as well as notes that are torn, worn, or otherwise damaged. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we can generally make you an offer — though the rate may be slightly lower than for current series notes. If you’re also sitting on leftover currency from neighbouring countries, we exchange Belarusian Rubles and Polish Zloty too.

Ukrainian Hryvnia Coins

We accept Ukrainian Hryvnia coins, including the kopiyka denominations that many exchanges and UK banks simply won’t take. Coin exchange rates are slightly lower than banknote rates due to the additional handling involved, but it’s a straightforward way to recover value from coins that would otherwise sit unused in a drawer.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days

Ukrainian Hryvnia Exchange FAQ

Is the Ukrainian Hryvnia still in circulation?

Yes, the Hryvnia remains the official currency of Ukraine and is still in active circulation today. Current banknotes and coins are fully exchangeable with us at our standard rates.

Can I exchange old Ukrainian Hryvnia notes that were issued before the current series?

Yes, we do accept older withdrawn series of Ukrainian Hryvnia banknotes. The rate will be slightly lower than for current notes, but as long as the note is at least 50% intact, we can typically make you an offer.

Do you accept Ukrainian kopiyka coins as well as Hryvnia banknotes?

Yes! We accept Ukrainian coins, including kopiyka denominations, which most UK banks and high street exchanges will refuse. The exchange rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but it’s well worth sending them in rather than leaving them unused.

How do I send my Ukrainian Hryvnia to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Hryvnia banknotes and coins and post them to us at your own arrangement — many customers returning from Ukraine find this a convenient way to convert leftover currency from home. Once we receive and verify your currency, we’ll pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you’re not happy with our offer, we’ll return your currency to you free of charge.

Will UK banks exchange my leftover Ukrainian Hryvnia?

Most UK high street banks will not exchange Ukrainian Hryvnia, as it is not a widely traded currency on the UK market. That’s where we can help — we specialise in currencies like the Hryvnia that are difficult to exchange through conventional channels, and we accept both current and older series notes as well as coins.
