100 Rupees Rupee (Issued 2007-2010)

A warm palette of olive green, golden yellow, and soft grey-green defines the visual character of this Nepalese hundred-rupee note, with the dominant tones drawn from the natural landscape and national identity of the Himalayan republic. The interplay of ochre border patterns against the cooler grey-green central field creates a layered, dignified composition typical of South Asian currency design from this period. Touches of deep teal and charcoal grey anchor the engraved imagery, lending the note both visual weight and tonal sophistication. These earthy, mountain-inspired hues were a deliberate choice, connecting the denomination visually to Nepal’s geographical and cultural heritage.

On the front, the dominant central image is a finely engraved depiction of Mount Everest, rendered in detailed intaglio with strong tonal contrast between the grey-white snow-capped summit and the darker rock faces below. To the lower right of the mountain imagery sits a detailed engraving of a multi-tiered Nepalese pagoda temple, depicted with careful architectural precision, its tiered roofs and surrounding structures clearly visible. Above the central imagery, the issuing authority is identified in Devanagari script as नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंक (Nepal Rastra Bank), accompanied by the word श्री above it in a formal typographic arrangement. Below this, further Devanagari text states the legal tender obligation of the Government of Nepal. The denomination is expressed prominently in Devanagari script as रुपैयाँ एक सय (Rupees One Hundred) in bold lettering, with a secondary notation तुरुन्त पाउनेछ beneath. The numeral 100 appears in the lower right corner in standard Arabic numerals, and an inverted 100 in stylised numerals appears in the lower left. A serial number is printed twice in dark ink horizontally across the lower portion of the note. A signature, identified as that of the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (काजु गभर्नर), appears in the lower central area. To the upper right, an intricate guilloché rosette pattern is visible within a circular field, and the border of the note is decorated with repeating geometric and scroll-work patterns in olive and golden yellow. A vertical security strip is embedded in the paper towards the left side of the note.

The reverse is dominated by a large, finely engraved illustration of a one-horned rhinoceros — the great Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), a species closely associated with Nepal’s Terai lowlands — depicted in a naturalistic setting amongst tall grasses and reeds. The engraving is executed with considerable detail, capturing the thick, plated skin texture of the animal. The background of the central field is a pale yellow-green, providing strong contrast with the dark grey-charcoal tones of the rhinoceros engraving. At the upper centre, the denomination रुपैयाँ एक सय is repeated in Devanagari script. Below the rhinoceros, the text RUPEES ONE HUNDRED is printed in English in dark lettering, flanked on either side by the numerals 100 set within ornate guilloché roundels. To the lower left, a circular emblem bearing the Nepal Rastra Bank seal is clearly visible, featuring the national emblem surrounded by Devanagari text. Along the left edge, a colour-shifting security feature is visible in the form of small rectangular patches that appear to shift between colours depending on viewing angle. The upper border carries a band of fine wave-pattern microprinting, and the lower border mirrors this with further geometric ornamentation in dark olive tones.
