50 Taka (Issued 2021)

Issued in 2021, this 50 Taka note was produced by Bangladesh Bank to mark the Golden Jubilee of the nation’s independence, commemorating fifty years since the liberation of 1971. Both a functioning banknote and a historical tribute, it is one of the more visually distinctive issues in the Bangladesh Taka series, and it remains current legal tender in everyday circulation across the country.

On the front, the dominant feature is a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first President of Bangladesh, rendered in fine intaglio engraving to the left of centre, shown wearing glasses and a dark jacket with careful tonal gradation. The background is laid out in soft lilac and pale violet tones, with intricate guilloche patterning forming a decorative frame. At the top, the issuing authority is identified in Bengali script as বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক, the Bangladesh Bank, beneath which a commemorative inscription references the golden jubilee years 1971–2021. The denomination is stated centrally as পঞ্চাশ টাকা, with a red serial number printed at the lower left and upper right. To the right of centre, a stylised numeral design in green and pink incorporates a circular emblem bearing the dates 1971–2021, and the numeral 50 appears boldly in the upper right. A vertical security strip runs through the right-centre of the note.

The reverse is printed predominantly in warm reddish-brown and deep maroon and carries the English title “Golden Jubilee of Independence 1971–2021” in clear serif type across the upper portion. The dominant image is a large, finely detailed engraving of a group of freedom fighters — the Muktijoddha — advancing in a determined line, several carrying rifles, set against a background of flames and a rural landscape that evokes the liberation struggle of 1971. A Bengali inscription below reads ১৯৭১: মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের বিজয়পূর্ণ অগ্রযাত্রা. The denomination পঞ্চাশ টাকা appears at the lower centre with the numeral 50 at the lower right, a circular Bangladesh Bank seal sits at the upper right, and the words “COMMEMORATIVE NOTE” run vertically along the right margin.
